Welcome to my experimental platform! Here, I delve into web design tools and ideas, using this site as a learning vehicle and testbed. I strive to create an eye-catching aesthetic with changing appearances, names, and URLs. Please note this site does not touch upon controversial topics such as sex, religion, or politics. The personal blog, however, keeps me in touch with friends and family across three continents. So not only can I satisfy my creative curiosity, but I also manage to stay connected all at once!

Right to the Heart of Dixie

Last summer, the US Gov told Karen they wanted to move her to Huntsville in Alabama. It was splendid news, but we had to buy and sell homes quickly, all during the COVID-19 lockdown.

St Johns Island Christmas
Published: 3 February 2020

We drove to Johns Island for Christmas & New Year (2019 - 2020). It is an Intercoastal Island south of Charleston, SC, and we rented an old farmhouse. Record levels of rain impeded our movement to and from it. But we did enjoy it all, especially the dog-friendly beach on Kiawah Island.

Back to Blair

I recount a nostalgic return to Blairgowrie, Perthshire, my hometown, after more than a decade. I describe a stay at a holiday house at Altamount Park and a reunion with my daughters. The visit included joyful and sad moments in familiar places such as the Meikleour Arms pub, the scenic City of Dundee, and the Kinloch House Hotel. I note changes in the berry-picking industry from their childhood until now, acknowledging the shift in workers from EU immigrants to Romanian Roma. I conclude with a mix of fulfilment and regret, wishing there was more time to rekindle connections with old haunts and friends.

Short Trips

In May 2019, we went to rural Georgia for 10 days or so. While we were there we spent a day visiting Huntsville in Alabama. We were keen to update our knowledge of the city with a view to moving there. Memorial Day fell during our stay, and visiting the War memorials in nearby Summerville was moving. It also has a monument for local Civil War Confederate Army soldiers. Later in the year, we took delivery of a new BMW X7 SUV and drove up to Davis in West Virginia to put it through its paces. We were impressed.

Big Time Catch Up 2020
Published: 17 January 2020

The COVID-19 lockdown impacted what we did in 2020, so I couldn't bring myself to write up our 2019 happenings. However, I managed a trip to Blairgowrie before it all came about. Karen went to New Zealand to see her sister, and we did get away to the Low Country for Christmas. Before that, we made short trips to Georgia and Alabama and one to Davis, WV.

An Easter review of our happenings and holidays in 2018. Trips to prisons, Belgium, Maine and South Carolina. Lots of rounds were fired.
